The Hungerford Family Foundation requested a logo and web design. Devoted to education about the Hungerford family and related surnames, the use of their family crest within the designs was quite important to them. As a private foundation they derive their funds from family, individuals, and various corporations. Their brand needed to show they are a well-founded investment opportunity, trustworthy and stately. Creating the logo as a seal, utilizing their family crest, all in conjunction with a beautiful serif font invoke all these attributes. This finalized logo served as the inspiration for their website redesign. For the website, I was responsible for the information architecture, wireframes, and design. It was important to restructure the menu navigation and website layout to make it simple for users from all audiences and age brackets to use. Rather than having a site map at the request of the client, I created a stacked nav in the footer of the website, finding it far easier to find and use. I created a wave at the top versus a hard line to create dimension and to mirror the edge of the seal from the logo. The client wanted the member login and search options to be prominent features. Search is something that most people will come to use, and log in implies the membership aspect of the site, drawing attention to the benefits of joining. I felt that being an organization who relies strictly on donations as funding, they should definitely draw attention to that fact by making it a sizable feature on the homepage. Having a scholarship fund seemed like such a kind gesture, it certainly deserved to be highlighted.
